HOSTING EVENTS
The Alumni Relations and Events team organizes events throughout the year. College resources are limited, so we defray some of the costs of these events by making a nominal charge, currently $20 per person. (No one will be turned away from a Hampshire event for lack of funds.) We are delighted when alumni suggest, organize, and indeed host events themselves, and we will help with these as much as we can.
There are different "levels" of hosting. If the event is in the annual events program, we would handle all the invitations and rsvps, organize a speaker as appropriate, and arrange for the catering. The host for such an event might cover all catering, mailing, and invitation costs; or they might simply offer their home or place of work, but not cover catering or mailing costs. For events that are not in the Alumni Relations program, and are beyond current staffing resources, we can provide alumni contact details and, time allowing, publicize "your" Hampshire event as appropriate. We can also suggest faculty or alum guest speakers. In some cases, it might be possible for us to help staff alumni-organized events.
If you would like to host an event, please email us. If you are suggesting a new event and volunteering to host it, you may wish to consider in advance the event’s purpose, whether to charge, how broad your invitation list, and whether you would like to cover some or indeed all of the cost of the event yourself. Where hosts cover event costs, the College can issue gift receipts. In these cases, it is advised that a budget for the event be agreed in advance.
