ABOUT THE LIEBLING CENTER

Hampshire’s film, photography, video and digital arts program developed a national reputation for excellence, innovation and artistic integrity. While students develop the ability to negotiate their own paths, think independently and express a distinctive personal vision, they have not had a space that allows both faculty and students to work together under one roof. For the first time at Hampshire College a new space, The Jerome Liebling Center for Film, Photography, and Video is being constructed to answer those needs.

Capital Improvements
For the first time at Hampshire College, a new space will bring together the faculty, students, and facilities in film, photography, video and the digital arts.
Hampshire will renovate and expand its current film and photography building to house the multipurpose Jerome Liebling Center for Film, Photography, and Video. In addition to the renovation of the current facility, a new 6,600-square-foot addition will include wired and wireless classrooms, darkrooms, staff offices and soundproof studios space for rehearsals, exhibits, and multimedia presentations.
Fully digital classrooms with up-to-date workstations for ongoing student projects will augment current facilities. These stations will also support workshops for both the still and moving image. Small studio and editing suites will enable students to design and edit their work, create installations, build animation elements and adapt to emerging technical innovations in digital technologies and the visual arts.
Endowment
The film, photography, and video program at Hampshire College has developed a national reputation for excellence, innovation, and artistic integrity, thanks in large part to the vision and dedication of such leaders as Professor Emeritus Jerome Liebling.
While the curriculum must constantly adapt to take advantage of new technologies, this highly interdisciplinary program remains firmly rooted in the liberal arts. Film, photography, and video students develop the ability to negotiate their own paths, think independently, and express a distinctive personal vision.
The Campaign to Endow Hampshire’s Future will enable the college to expand and enhance educational opportunities in film, photography, and video through the Jerome Liebling Center for Film, Photography, and Video.
Contributions to the campaign of this recognized program will build a strong permanent endowment for the Liebling Center. Endowment contributions will ensure continuity and growth by:
- fully endowing one permanent Liebling Center faculty position;
- establishing a permanent, dedicated fund to support upkeep and maintenance of the building; and
- providing ongoing support for faculty and student projects; essential film, photography, and video equipment; and other needs of the Liebling Center.
